"WHAT ARE SOME OF THE THINGS THAT CUSTOM SCRIPT SLOTS CAN BE USED FOR?"
There are several key points in which a custom script can be installed and run in the shopping cart software. Some examples of the events that can trigger these custom scripts include:
Immediately before or after an order is placed in the store
A script can be run immediately before or after a transaction is processed in the store's order records. It is run once per order. If the store is processing a series of subscriptions, it will be triggered once for each subscription that is successfully processed. This can be used to send a copy of the customer and/or transaction information to a third-party application.
When an affiliate link is clicked
A script can be run when a customer clicks on a link containing an Affiliate Tracking ID (TID) number. The custom script is run after the Affiliate Tracking cookie is set, and before the customer is redirected to the TID number's landing page. It can be used to record additional information about the click, or set additional variables that can be referenced later during the shopping and checkout process.
When a customer cancels a subscription
Scripts can also be triggered when a customer cancels a product subscription from within their Customer Account Area. If a customer's subscription has been set to "pending cancellation", the cart will first run this custom script and before cancelling the customer's subscription to the product.
In the Administration Area's Product Editor
Additional tools can even be added to the Product Editor in the store's Administration Area. It can be used to increase the number of options in the Editor. This option is typically used to add fields used in integrating products with third-party software and systems.
